Peacock is gearing up to launch its epic gladiator drama Those About To Die, joining the ranks of prestigious historical series like House Of The Dragon and Shōgun.

Based on Daniel P. Mannix’s book, the show, created by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan), boasts heavyweight talent. Blockbuster veteran Roland Emmerich directs, with Sir Anthony Hopkins and Game Of Thrones star Iwan Rheon leading the cast as Roman Emperor Vespasian and Master of Games Tenax.

The first trailer promises chariot races, arena battles, plotting, and uprisings galore. Rodat and Emmerich aim to uncover the corrupt and bloody world of gladiatorial sport, rivaling the grandeur of Game Of Thrones with lavish sets and intricate costumes.

The series dives deep into ancient Rome’s underbelly, exploring the spectacle-driven competition that satisfies the mob’s thirst for blood and entertainment.

Featuring an ensemble cast from across the Roman Empire, including Tom Hughes, Sara Martins, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Jojo Macari, Gabriella Pession, Dimitri Leonidas, Emilio Sakraya, Moe Hashim, and Rupert Penry-Jones, Those About To Die promises a gripping intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.

Set to premiere on Peacock on July 18 and on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland on July 19, the series is set to delight audiences with its dramatic intensity and historical intrigue.
