Why the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid is the Best Choice

Honda Civic Revealed in Hybrid Form (Honda)

Honda is reintroducing the hybrid variant of the Civic lineup for 2025, after a brief hiatus. The last time a hybrid Civic was available in the US was in 2015, and the compact-hybrid torch was briefly carried by the third-gen Insight until its discontinuation in 2022.

However, Honda has made significant improvements to its two-motor hybrid system since then. The 2025 Civic hybrid combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, producing a total system output of 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque.

Despite being heavier than its non-hybrid counterparts, the Civic hybrid’s seamless acceleration and weight distribution make it a compelling choice.

The hybrid powertrain is also available in the CR-V and Accord lineup-topping trims, and Honda’s emphasis on hybrid technology is a testament to its commitment to innovation and customer preference.

The Civic hybrid’s power delivery is smooth and quiet, with the electric motors providing most of the motivation in EV mode or when the gas engine is feeding the generator.

The direct-drive gearbox simulates a conventional automatic transmission, modulating engine rpm to create a seamless driving experience. Preliminary EPA figures indicate a promising fuel economy of 50 mpg city and 47 highway, making the Civic hybrid a strong contender in its class.
