The return of Vince McMahon to WWE has created immediate and serious changes within the organization. One of the most outstanding developments is Stephanie McMahon’s resignation from her executive roles on January 10.
This decision follows a tumultuous year for Stephanie, who initially announced a leave of absence last May, only to return to an executive position two months later when her father first announced his retirement.
Stephanie’s resignation has raised concerns about the future of WWE’s executive leadership, as discussed by Bill Simmons and Ariel Helwani on a recent episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast.”
Helwani highlighted Stephanie’s popularity and the positive atmosphere she fostered within the company. “It was like these clouds had opened up,” Helwani recounted. “Everyone’s spirits were high, and no one had anything negative to say about Stephanie. She’s incredibly respected.”
Helwani expressed concern that Stephanie’s departure might lead to a return of the previous company culture before her tenure as co-CEO with Nick Khan. Despite this, he remains confident in the abilities of Khan and Paul Levesque, who continue to hold executive positions in the company.
Both Simmons and Helwani view Stephanie McMahon’s resignation as a troubling sign for WWE. Helwani praised her as “likable and respected,” describing her as the ideal businesswoman.
Looking ahead, Helwani believes Stephanie has the potential to succeed in any future endeavors. “If she decides to pursue something new, imagine a media company led by [Stephanie]. I think she’d excel at whatever she chooses to do,” he stated.
