As the NFL’s Week 1 kicked off, the Chicago Bears found themselves under a spotlight rarely seen in recent years, thanks to their top draft pick: Caleb Williams. The former USC star quarterback, selected first overall in the 2024 Draft, arrived with lofty expectations, anticipated to become an immediate game-changer for the Bears.
The matchup against the Tennessee Titans, ordinarily not a high-profile game, drew considerable interest as fans and analysts were eager to see how Williams would perform in his professional debut. However, the highly anticipated rookie fell short of the hype. Williams struggled seriously, failing to surpass 100 passing yards and completing only 14 of his 29 attempts, managing just 93 yards.
Despite Williams’ underwhelming performance, the Bears managed to secure a victory thanks to strong showings from their defense and special teams. Following the game, sports commentator Skip Bayless took to his X account to offer his take on the rookie’s performance.
“Kid is going to be good,” Bayless commented, suggesting that despite the rough start, Williams has the potential to develop into a valuable player.
For Bears fans and the organization, this debut was not the promising start they had hoped for. Yet, it’s crucial to remember that it’s only the beginning of the season. Williams has ample opportunity to adjust and grow, and the first game’s struggles are a common part of transitioning to the NFL. The season still holds potential for improvement and progress as the rookie gains experience.
