Record Crowd Welcomes Spurs Back to Alamodome: NBA Attendance Milestone

Spurs Receive Historic Welcome Back from Record Crowd (Spurs/NBA)

The San Antonio Spurs made NBA history by setting a new single-game attendance record for a regular-season game, drawing a staggering 68,323 fans to their matchup against the defending champion Golden State Warriors on Friday.

The Alamodome, hosting its first Spurs game since May 12, 2002, witnessed Spurs legend David Robinson announce the record to the electrified crowd during the second half.

This milestone surpasses the previous record of 62,046 fans (Spurs/NBA)

This milestone surpasses the previous record of 62,046 fans, set on March 27, 1998, during a game between the Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls at the Georgia Dome.

While this game set a new regular-season attendance record, the NBA’s general attendance record for a single event remains at 108,713 fans, achieved at the 2010 All-Star Game held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

San Antonio commemorated their 50th anniversary in the league with this special game at the Alamodome.

Despite the festive atmosphere, the Spurs ended the night with a defeat, marking their seventh loss in eight games, as the Warriors clinched a 144-113 victory. Steph Curry, in just his second game back from injury, contributed 15 points.

Reflecting on the experience, Curry shared his appreciation: “It was awesome. … It was cool to see them recognize their 50-year history and all of the great moments that have gone into this organization, the successes and championships they’ve had and the greats that were in the building.

It was awesome to experience and it just takes 64,000 to bring our best road performance of the year.”
