Shawn Levy May Helm Avengers 5 for Marvel Studios

Marvel’s next Avengers movie has been in limbo for a while. Back in July 2022, Kevin Feige announced the Multiverse Saga would feature two major team-up films: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

However, after Phase 4’s lukewarm performance and Jonathan Majors being dropped as Kang following an assault conviction, plans shifted. The Kang Dynasty was scrapped, Shang-Chi’s Destin Daniel Cretton stepped down from directing to focus on Shang-Chi 2, and progress stalled.

But there’s fresh movement now. According to Deadline, Marvel is considering Shawn Levy to helm the next Avengers movie. Currently, Levy is wrapping up Deadpool & Wolverine, anticipated to be a major box office success.

Due to this, Marvel Studios is keen on Levy as a potential director for Avengers 5. Levy has been given the latest screenplay draft by Michael Waldron, known for Loki and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. However, the studio is also meeting with other directors.

Levy has his hands full, overseeing the final season of Stranger Things with the Duffer Brothers and potentially working on a Star Wars movie. Despite this, Marvel aims to get a climactic Avengers event film underway.

Although it will be some time before the Avengers reassemble – with Deadpool & Wolverine, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four lined up first – the effort to plan an event film is evident.

Levy’s potential involvement is a promising sign for his Deadpool sequel, which will introduce Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With A Mouth into the MCU. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
