In partnership with India’s Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby, Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the trailer for its forthcoming Hindi-language film, “Superboys of Malegaon.” The world premiere of “Superboys of Malegaon” is slated for September 13 at the Toronto Film Festival, with the film set to debut in Europe at the BFI London Film Festival on October 10.

Drawing inspiration from the real-life journey of amateur filmmaker Nasir Sheikh, the film is set in the small town of Malegaon in Maharashtra, western India. In this town, Bollywood movies offer a much-needed break from routine life.

Superboys of Malegaon will also debut at the BFI London Film Festival on October 10, with a theatrical release planned for January 2025 (Excel Entertainment, Tiger Baby Films)

Nasir, motivated to create a film for and by the people of Malegaon, enlists his eclectic group of friends to bring his vision to fruition, revitalizing the town with a new sense of hope. The narrative delves into themes of friendship, creativity, and the resilience needed to overcome obstacles.

Reema Kagti, known for “Dahaad,” directs the film, with Varun Grover, who worked on “All India Rank,” providing the screenplay. The cast features Adarsh Gourav from “The White Tiger,” Vineet Kumar Singh of “The Brawler,” and Shashank Arora from “Made in Heaven.” Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, and Kagti under the banners of Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby, the film brings together as a team.

Kagti commented, “Nasir’s journey underscores the transformative power of cinema. Despite limited resources, he managed to establish a thriving video film industry in Malegaon, complete with its own distribution and exhibition system. Nasir’s achievements are truly inspiring.”

Zoya Akhtar added, “Both Reema and I are drawn to diverse stories and strive to present them authentically. Our goal isn’t necessarily to be relatable or raw but to remain true to the story we choose to tell. Authenticity is key to making the narrative resonate.” “Superboys of Malegaon” is set to hit theaters in January 2025, with a subsequent release on Prime Video.
