The newly introduced ‘EV’ number plate series is now open for bidding on JPJ’s eBid platform. The auction, running for five days, will close at 10 p.m. on September 13, with results to be announced the following day.
All numbers in the series are available for bids, except for EV1, which has already been secured by a high-profile individual. Transport Minister Anthony Loke hinted at a forthcoming announcement regarding this prestigious allocation during the launch of the JPJePlate in Cyberjaya.
Distinct from other state or specialty plates, these EV plates are designated exclusively for fully electric vehicles. Unlike typical special plates, this series will be ongoing, with subsequent plates labeled EVA, EVB, and so forth. This system ensures that all electric vehicles in Malaysia will sport these EV plates moving forward.
JPJ emphasizes that once a bid is successful, it cannot be reversed. Any requests to modify the bid outcome or to permit an EV plate on a non-electric vehicle will not be considered. Fees paid for bidding and service charges are non-refundable and contribute to government revenue.
It is important to note that these EV plates differ from the newly introduced JPJePlate design for electric vehicles. The latter pertains to the physical design of the license plate, while this announcement addresses the actual registration numbers. Starting today, electric vehicles must display both the new number series and the white JPJePlate.
Models such as the Kia EV9 and the upcoming EV5 would be ideally suited to these exclusive single-digit plates.
