After a lengthy wait, the new Subaru Crosstrek is set to debut in Thailand next year. According to Headlight Magazine, this latest model will arrive as the e-Boxer hybrid, and it’s anticipated to come with a hefty price tag.
The third-generation Crosstrek, known for its lifted hatchback design, is expected to be priced around 1,800,000 baht (approximately RM232,000). This represents an increase over the current second-generation XV 2.0i-P EyeSight, which costs 1,055,000 baht (about RM136,000). Unlike the XV, which is assembled at Tan Chong’s Malaysian facility, the new Crosstrek will be imported directly from Japan due to the end of ASEAN assembly.
The e-Boxer powertrain in the Crosstrek features a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-four engine, delivering 145 PS at 6,000 rpm and 188 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. This engine is combined with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that includes a 13.6 PS/65 Nm electric motor and a 0.57 kWh battery.
The total system output is 150 PS and 196 Nm. Paired with a Lineartronic CVT and Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive, the Crosstrek boasts a fuel efficiency of 15.8 km per liter according to the WLTP cycle.
Built on an updated Subaru Global Platform, the Crosstrek features bold styling, including trapezoidal headlights, a large hexagonal grille, and rugged black plastic accents. Inside, it comes with an 11.6-inch portrait infotainment screen that integrates both the head unit and a supplemental display. Enhanced with the EyeSight driver assistance system, the Crosstrek now includes a wide-angle monocular camera for better detection of pedestrians and cyclists.
The Crosstrek will be among five new Subaru models launched in Thailand in 2025, alongside the Forester e-Boxer and refreshed versions of the Outback, WRX, and BRZ. The model is expected to reach Malaysia shortly after that, though it remains to be seen if the e-Boxer will attract buyers at this price point.
