NHL Draft 24 (NHL)

The 2024 NHL draft is set to take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas on June 28 and 29, with hundreds of prospects vying for a spot on an NHL roster. The San Jose Sharks, who finished with the worst record in the 2023-24 season, won the draft lottery and will select first overall.

The Chicago Blackhawks, who selected Connor Bedard with the first pick last year, will choose second. The first 30 picks have been determined, with the remaining selections to be announced after the conclusion of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Draft 24 Roundup (NHL)

Several trades have impacted the draft order, with the Sharks acquiring the 14th pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Blackhawks gaining the 20th pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Senators acquiring the 25th pick from the Boston Bruins. The Canadiens, Flames, Ducks, and Flyers also made trades that affected the draft order.

Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Jets have signed defenseman Dylan DeMelo to a four-year, $19.6 million contract extension. DeMelo, 31, played all 82 games last season, setting career highs in assists and points.

His plus-minus rating of plus-46 ranked second in the NHL, and he led the Jets in blocked shots and shorthanded ice time. The Ontario native has recorded 144 points and a plus-80 rating through 554 games with the Sharks, Senators, and Jets.
