While a manual transmission is no longer an option, the seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox comes standard. All-wheel drive with torque vectoring remains a staple feature, allowing for improved handling and drift mode capabilities.

The new Golf R reaches 62 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds, or 4.6 seconds with the optional Performance pack, and has a top speed of 155 mph (167 mph with the Performance pack).

Drift mode, or the Drift Performance Profile, allows for 100 percent power distribution to the rear wheels, while torque vectoring technology enhances cornering by sending up to 100 percent power to the outer wheel.

Visually, the new Golf R sports redesigned bumpers, fresh LED light fixtures, and IQ.Light LED taillights with a 3D design. The interior features a 12.9-inch touchscreen, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, custom R graphics, GPS lap timer, and G Meter.

While the touch sliders carry over from the previous model, they will at least be illuminated. A head-up display is available as an option. With its impressive performance and updated features, the 2025 Golf R is set to be a formidable contender in the hot hatch market.
