N.J. Prospect and Ex-Seton Hall Righty: Will He Choose the Orioles or Red Sox?

Andrew Politi (MLB)

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired Andrew Politi, who was previously with the Boston Red Sox, through the Rule 5 Draft in December. Now, the Orioles must keep Politi on their major league roster for the entire season or offer him back to Boston.

“We’re committed to giving him every chance to succeed,” Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told the Baltimore Sun. “Regardless of where he might end up, we’ll ensure he has all the resources needed to improve. I’m hopeful he can secure a spot on the team.”

Politi Stated, “It’s Mostly About Sticking to What I Do Best and Not Overcomplicating Things” (MLB)

Politi, 26, posted a 2.34 ERA and a 30.2% strikeout rate over 50 appearances in the upper minors for the Red Sox last season. As reported by the Sun, he described himself as someone who “spins the ball pretty well” and noted that the Orioles have focused on “playing to your strengths.” He is aiming for one of the eight available bullpen spots.

“It’s mostly about sticking to what I do best and not overcomplicating things,” Politi explained. “Just focusing on executing well.”

Politi added, “Seeing another team appreciate my performance from last year and valuing what I can bring means a lot to me.”
