After the surprise exit of Adam Wingard from Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire last month, Legendary swiftly found a new captain for their monstrous ship.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grant Sputore, the director behind I Am Mother, will now helm the next chapter in the MonsterVerse. The script comes from Dave Callaham, the mind behind hits like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

We know little about the upcoming film, except that it will continue the saga of Godzilla, Kong, and a host of other Titans. Before Wingard’s departure, he hinted that the next team-up might see Godzilla taking the spotlight, with a possible appearance by the legendary Kaiju, Destoroyah.

Whether Sputore will stick to this plan or chart a new course remains to be seen. Sputore’s debut film, I Am Mother, showcased his talent for blending human drama with sci-fi spectacle, making him an intriguing choice for the MonsterVerse.

In other Kaiju news, Godzilla Minus One has just landed on Netflix after a successful and award-winning run. With talk of a sequel to Minus One already circulating and Legendary’s bold choice for the next MonsterVerse director, it’s an exciting era for Kaiju enthusiasts.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Godzilla X Kong sequel. In the meantime, if you haven’t seen Godzilla Minus One yet, now’s the perfect time to dive in. It’s a must-watch for any fan of the genre.
