Eagles’ Jalen Hurts Rides High as a Thoroughbred, Unlike the Racehorse Named Jalen Hurts, Who Is a Stiff

Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles)

Jalen Hurts, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, had a standout season with 760 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns over 15 games. The racehorse named Jalen Hurts seems to have had a rather uneventful fall, as there are no signs he even trotted to the water trough.

It appears that the racehorse named after the Eagles quarterback, who nearly clinched a national championship in his freshman year at Alabama, isn’t much of a runner—much like naming a watchdog Mike Tyson only to discover he’s more interested in tail-wagging than guarding.

According to USA Today Sports’ Dan Wolken, the owner of this Jalen Hurts had to intervene to save the horse from neglect before allowing him to enjoy a better life. This situation mirrors the real Jalen Hurts’ own story, where he was rescued from Alabama and a backup role behind Carson Wentz. As reported by Wolken:

On a farm in Picayune, Mississippi, the other Jalen Hurts, now a 7-year-old ex-racehorse, spends his days grazing on grass and hay and offering companionship to other injured Thoroughbreds. Given that he was gelded early in life, he wouldn’t have had breeding prospects anyway, so his days of racing are long behind him.
