This year’s Golden Globes took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, aiming to distance itself from the troubled Hollywood Foreign Press Association. As expected, it was a successful night for “Oppenheimer” and “The Holdovers,” though “Barbie” didn’t win as many awards as anticipated.
“Oppenheimer” earned Christopher Nolan his first directing Golden Globe, after six previous nominations. The film also won Best Actor (Drama) for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., Best Original Score, and Best Picture (Drama).
“The Holdovers,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” and “Barbie” each won two awards. The year’s biggest hit, “Barbie,” won Best Original Song for Billie Eilish and Finneas’ “What Was I Made For?” and the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award.
In television, the awards were less surprising. “Succession” and “The Bear” dominated, while Netflix’s “Beef” had a strong night, winning Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television. Stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong also took home awards, with Wong being the first actress of Asian descent to win in her category.
