Rory McIlroy’s attorney has filed a motion to dismiss the divorce petition filed on the golfer’s behalf in a Florida court last month. McIlroy has reconciled with his wife of seven years, Erica Stoll, and the case is now closed.
In a statement, McIlroy addressed the rumors surrounding his personal life, saying, “Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
The initial court filing on May 13 stated that the marriage was irretrievably broken, with McIlroy seeking shared custody of their 3-year-old daughter and enforcement of their prenuptial agreement.
However, the couple has since reconciled, putting an end to the divorce proceedings. This development comes as a surprise to many, given the initial indications of an irreconcilable breakdown.
McIlroy, the world’s third-ranked golfer, is set to compete in this week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, aiming to end a nearly 10-year drought without a major championship victory.
The golfer met his wife at the 2012 Ryder Cup and they married in Ireland in 2017. Despite their brief separation, the couple has reunited and is looking forward to a new chapter in their lives together. This reconciliation is a testament to the couple’s commitment to their family and their relationship.
