During Peugeot’s E-Lion Day last week, the French automaker revealed its plans to introduce mild-hybrid technology to the 2008 later this year, coinciding with the crossover’s mid-cycle facelift, which has been recently spotted undergoing testing.
While the prototype seen had camouflage mainly at the rear, future versions are expected to be disguised at the front as well.
Identified by its dual exhaust tips, the 2024 Peugeot 2008 prototype observed was equipped with a combustion engine, but similar styling updates are anticipated for the electric e-2008 variant.
However, redesigned taillights were visible, hinting at aesthetic updates. The rear bumper, though camouflaged, suggests potential subtle tweaks.
Captured during cold weather testing in Sweden, the prototype showcased halogen headlights, contrasting with the optional full-LED setup featuring Peugeot’s distinctive three-claw light signature.
Interior changes were not apparent in this prototype, suggesting carryover from the current model, though facelifts typically include interior updates.
Under the hood, the upcoming mild-hybrid models will feature a new generation of PureTech gasoline engines, offering outputs of 100 and 136 horsepower.
These engines will be paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, incorporating a 21-kilowatt electric motor. This setup not only enhances low-end torque but also aims to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 percent.
Following recent improvements in Stellantis’ small EV lineup, enhancements to the e-2008 are anticipated, potentially boosting range.
For instance, the 2023 e-208 received a power increase to 156 hp with a larger battery capacity of 48.1 kWh, extending its range to 400 kilometers (249 miles) on a single charge in the WLTP cycle.
Peugeot plans to launch the refreshed 2008 in the second half of the year, offering both mild-hybrid and electric variants to cater to diverse customer preferences and regulatory requirements.
