The Dallas Cowboys possess the potential for one of the top offenses in the NFL, featuring talents like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb; however, this potential has yet to materialize during the 2024 season. Despite a promising beginning, the Cowboys find themselves struggling with a 3-3 record, placing them third in the NFC East.
Challenges abound as their defense falters in preventing opposing teams from scoring, while the offense has failed to perform at a level high enough to offset these struggles. A serious issue for the Dallas offense lies in the running game, where the combination of Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott has not met expectations.
Although Dowdle has displayed moments of effectiveness, neither he nor Elliott has managed to take on a heavy workload consistently. In an effort to reverse their fortunes, the Cowboys are turning to Dalvin Cook.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, “The Cowboys plan to raise RB Dalvin Cook from the practice squad for Sunday night’s game vs the [San Francisco] 49ers. The former Pro Bowler is set to make his Dallas debut.”
After splitting his time between the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens last season, Cook is anticipated to play a more prominent role with the Cowboys, who are in dire need of improvement in their running game. At 29 years old, Cook might be past his prime, but his lack of snaps with Dallas this season suggests he could be fresh and ready to contribute.
