Blumhouse’s Thriller Film Drop Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar Debuts At SXSW

Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar take the spotlight in Blumhouse’s latest thriller, Drop, where a seemingly ordinary first date spirals into a nightmarish fight for survival.

The film made its world premiere at Austin’s Paramount Theater on March 9 as part of the SXSW TV & Film Festival, receiving one of the most enthusiastic receptions of the event.

The crowd erupted into applause multiple times throughout the screening, captivated by Fahy’s performance as Violet, who finds herself in a terrifying predicament.

While on a date with Henry (played by Sklenar), she begins receiving ominous messages on her phone—threatening to kill her son and sister unless she murders her date.

As the tension escalates, the film takes bold, dramatic turns, challenging the audience to suspend disbelief.

With a stylish visual approach and a gripping mystery, Drop pulls viewers into its suspenseful world. Fahy, who appears in every scene, delivers a performance that makes it impossible to look away.

A Star-Studded Creative Team

Directed by Christopher Landon, the film is produced by Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller.

Following the premiere, the audience gave a standing ovation and stayed for a Q&A session with Landon, Fahy, and Sklenar.

Fahy on Her Action-Packed Role

When asked about the physical demands of the role—including an intense action sequence teased in the trailer—Fahy shared how she prepared for the challenge.

“They took really good care of me. It was my first time doing a lot of this stuff, and it was an incredible learning experience.

It was really hard hanging out of that window in the harness,” she said with a laugh. “There was one day where I was like, ‘You’ve gotta put me back down on the ground.’”

Sklenar playfully chimed in:

“She loves the harness. She loves flying around in that thing. It’s really comfortable.”

Fahy shot back with a grin:

“You couldn’t get me out of it!”

Beyond the physical challenges, Fahy also felt an emotional connection to her character.

“I loved her immediately, and I just thought it was really beautiful the way that they wove in her past experience,” she explained.

“Something Chris and I talked about was how uniquely suited she is to be in the situation that she’s in. I was immediately smitten with her.”

Has Drop Changed Their Relationship with Technology?

Despite the film’s chilling focus on ominous digital threats, when asked if Drop had changed their own relationships with their phones, Landon, Fahy, and Sklenar all responded with a firm “no.”

Sklenar, who recently starred alongside Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in It Ends With Us, admitted:

“It’s getting worse by the day, actually.”
