Introducing the 2025 Audi Q6 Sportback E-Tron: What to Expect

The Audi Q6 E-Tron Sportback debuts at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, showcasing a streamlined design that sets it apart in the electric vehicle market (Audi)

The SUV-coupe concept was first introduced by BMW with the original X6, and it has now transitioned into the electric vehicle market. Audi already boasts two niche models, the Q4 Sportback E-Tron and the Q8 Sportback E-Tron, and for the 2024 Paris Motor Show, the company has uncovered its latest addition, the Q6 E-Tron Sportback.

This new model presents a sleeker design compared to the recently revealed 2025 Q6 E-Tron, which shares its platform with the new Porsche Macan. The Sportback features a roofline that is approximately 1.5 inches lower than the conventional electric SUV variant. While this may not seem outstanding, the streamlined roofline allows Audi to reduce the drag coefficient from 0.28 to 0.26.

The front storage compartment, or “frunk,” provides an additional 64 liters of space, complemented by 25 liters throughout the cabin for everyday convenience (Audi)

Audi claims that the coupe-like silhouette of the Q6 E-Tron Sportback is reminiscent of the first-generation TT Coupe. However, it is challenging to draw this comparison as the overall body is noticeably bulkier than the original TT.

The Q6 Sportback E-Tron incorporates design elements seen in other Audi models built on the Premium Platform Electric architecture, including split headlights—a trend currently in vogue.

This distinctive feature helps differentiate it from the smaller Q4 Sportback E-Tron, which is otherwise quite similar. More variety in design would be beneficial, especially considering the upcoming gas-powered Q5 Sportback will not deviate much in appearance.

The tapered rear design does slightly reduce cargo space, though the impact is minimal. With the rear seats in their upright position, the vehicle offers 511 liters of storage, which expands to 1,373 liters when the seats are folded down.

The front storage compartment, often referred to as the “frunk,” retains a capacity of 64 liters, with an additional 25 liters available throughout the cabin. The interior largely mirrors that of the Q6 E-Tron, featuring a triple-screen layout. It includes a 14.5-inch infotainment display, an 11.9-inch driver’s display, and a 10.9-inch screen for passengers.

For those seeking enhanced features, a head-up display with augmented reality capabilities is available for an extra cost. This configuration is also found in the A6 E-Tron, where physical controls have been minimized.

The Q6 Sportback E-Tron, maintaining the basic layout of the Q6 E-Tron, comes in several variants. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel-drive models with a single motor or Quattro models equipped with dual motors.

Two battery options are available: one with a net capacity of 75.8 kWh and another with 94.9 kWh. The SQ6, featuring a dual-motor setup and the larger battery, represents the top tier of the lineup.

Audi claims that depending on the chosen variant, the Q6 Sportback E-Tron supports fast charging of up to 270 kW (Audi)

The performance-oriented SQ6 produces 483 horsepower, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 4.3 seconds. Opting for the Q6 Sportback E-Tron with Quattro provides 382 hp, allowing for a sprint to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds.

For those choosing the rear-wheel-drive Q6 Sportback E-Tron Performance, it delivers 302 hp and achieves 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. The base model offers 248 hp and reaches the same speed in seven seconds.

If maximum range is a priority, the rear-wheel-drive Q6 Sportback E-Tron Performance is the best option, boasting an impressive range of up to 408 miles (656 kilometers) on a single charge with the 94.9 kWh battery. The more affordable version with the 75.8 kWh battery can travel up to 339 miles (545 kilometers).

Audi claims that depending on the chosen variant, the Q6 Sportback E-Tron supports fast charging of up to 270 kW, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. A quick 10-minute stop at a charging station can replenish enough power for an additional 165 miles (265 kilometers) of driving.

Unlike the simpler Q4 E-Tron Sportback, which is built on the MEB platform, the Q6 E-Tron Sportback features adaptive air suspension for a more comfortable driving experience.

Additionally, it is equipped with an 800-volt electrical system, enhancing its charging capabilities. The cabin includes a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system with 20 speakers, four of which are integrated into the front headrests.

Following its debut at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, the Audi Q6 E-Tron Sportback is expected to hit the European market by the end of this year or early 2025. Specific details regarding its availability in the United States remain undisclosed.
