In September, a total of 9,828 cars were sold by Volvo Car USA and Canada, reflecting a decline of 19.5 percent compared to the same month last year. However, sales of electrified models, which include fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, rose by 19.3 percent year over year, making up 41.4 percent of the total sales for the month.
When looking at the year-to-date figures, electrified model sales have surged by 16 percent compared to the first nine months of 2023, now comprising 34.1 percent of total sales.
In the United States, sales totaled 8,518 units in September, down 22.2 percent from the previous year. Nonetheless, electrified models saw an increase of 11.9 percent, representing 40.1 percent of overall sales.
Canadian sales reached 1,310 units in September, showing a modest increase of 3.5 percent compared to the same month last year. However, sales of electrified models surged by 81.6 percent, accounting for 49.8 percent of the month’s total sales.
Among the US sales, the XC60 compact luxury SUV emerged as the best-selling model, with 2,807 units sold in September, followed closely by the XC90 midsize luxury SUV at 2,633 vehicles and the XC40 small luxury SUV with 1,715 units sold.
