The Memphis Grizzlies have decided to part ways with veteran point guard Derrick Rose following his request for a release, as reported by ESPN. Rose, now 35, was in the final year of a two-season contract worth $6.6 million, which he signed last offseason.
Throughout his tenure with the Grizzlies, he appeared in 24 games, contributing an average of 8.0 points and 3.3 assists per contest. Once a standout for the Chicago Bulls, where he earned the 2010-11 MVP title and became a three-time All-Star, Rose has faced challenges due to injuries but has maintained a remarkable career.
Over the years, he has played for six teams, boasting an impressive career average of 17.4 points and 5.2 assists per game. This move marks the end of his stint in Memphis, where he aimed to add depth to the roster.
The decision to waive him was first reported by The Athletic, highlighting the franchise’s ongoing changes as they prepare for the upcoming season without the seasoned guard.
