Reports have indicated that since early August, Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo are likely transitioning from AEW to WWE, particularly after news emerged about their contract status. On Thursday, it appeared that this shift was confirmed when Cory Hays from PWNexus suggested that both wrestlers had signed multi-year contracts for WWE’s main roster.
However, this assertion now seems hasty, as sources from Fightful Select and Pro Wrestling Insider have clarified that while The Lucha Brothers are likely heading to WWE, they have not yet finalized any agreements.
According to Fightful, WWE representatives have denied that the brothers are under contract, with one source stating that Fenix remains an AEW talent—though AEW has not verified this information. Meanwhile, PWI reported that both wrestlers are still officially signed to AEW.
Although there is interest from WWE, they have not yet been able to sign any contracts due to legal constraints. Both outlets concur that The Lucha Brothers are expected to join WWE soon, with Fightful noting that neither promotion has responded to inquiries about their status.
In response to the developments, Hays clarified his initial statement on Saturday, emphasizing that he never explicitly claimed the brothers had officially signed contracts. “As Rey’s contract hasn’t expired yet,” he noted on X (formerly Twitter), while quoting Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp.
He added that discussions have taken place and merchandise has received approval. When questioned about Fenix’s contract expiration, Hays mentioned, “This month, and [Tony Khan] isn’t adding injury time to it.”
Neither Penta nor Fenix has competed in AEW since mid-July, with Penta last appearing on the July 19 episode of “AEW Rampage” and Fenix on the July 20 episode of “AEW Collision.” Consequently, both wrestlers have been inactive for over a month.
