The recent shift of “WWE SmackDown” to the USA Network brought several updates, including a fresh theme song titled “Neva Play” by Megan Thee Stallion.
This change gained additional intrigue after it was revealed that the rapper had previously discussed a potential collaboration with AEW star Mercedes Mone, who hinted at this before AEW All In last month.
In the newest edition of “Mone Mag,” Mone clarified the situation, confirming that she and Stallion had been in discussions about working together after developing a friendship at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Japan earlier this year.
She speculated that WWE’s partnership with Stallion may have stemmed from her own public comments about collaborating.
Reflecting on her earlier remarks, Mone stated, “A few weeks back, I inadvertently teased the idea in an interview, which caught media attention.
Then it was announced that Meg would be featured in the new ‘SmackDown’ theme. While it could simply be a coincidence, they don’t call me the blueprint for nothing. In retrospect, I should have kept quiet about it, but we all learn from our experiences.”
She expressed her mixed feelings about the situation, saying, “I’m flattered and honored because it shows we’re on the right track. Although I would have loved to collaborate with Meg and see her involved with our brand, I’m genuinely happy for her.
She’s an amazing person and talent who will now reach a wider wrestling audience. Rest assured, AEW and Team Moné have exciting plans in the works, so stay tuned for more announcements.”
