On Monday’s episode of “WWE Raw” in Calgary, Canada, Bret Hart made a special appearance in his home country during a segment involving World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER and fellow Canadian Sami Zayn. While many wrestlers in the past have referenced the infamous Montreal Screwjob or Hart’s long-standing feud with Shawn Michaels, GUNTHER’s attempt to provoke Hart took an unexpected approach.
Rather than addressing the well-known controversies, GUNTHER shared that his childhood hero in wrestling was Goldberg—a wrestler Hart has openly criticized for years due to the injury that ended his career at Starrcade 1999. Booker T weighed in on the segment during his “Hall of Fame” podcast, praising the execution of the interaction and GUNTHER’s surprising choice of words.
“I thought it was a great moment,” Booker said. “The way they brought Bret back and how the segment played out was perfect, especially with the Hall of Famer involved. I loved how it came together … Maybe this will be the moment where Bret finally moves on and lets it go.”
At the same time, Sami Zayn has tried twice to challenge GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship, but the champion has refused to entertain a rematch. Zayn remains the only WWE superstar to have pinned GUNTHER since his call-up to the main roster.
