The actress and noted philanthropy and fashion icon has signed on to star alongside Bob Odenkirk in Nobody 2, Universal’s sequel to the 2021 surprise hit produced by 87North.
Odenkirk returns to his role as a seemingly mild-mannered family man who is secretly a former government assassin. Although plot details are under wraps, it is confirmed that Stone will play the main villain.
Indonesian director Timo Tjahjanto, recognized for his horror and action work such as May the Devil Take You and segments of the V/H/S series, will helm the film. The screenplay is penned by Derek Kolstad, Aaron Rabin, Odenkirk, and Umair Aleem.
Bob Odenkirk recently discussed why he believes he lost out on the role of Michael Scott in The Office to Steve Carell. The original movie’s producers are returning for the sequel. Odenkirk will reunite with Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, who are producing under their Universal-based 87North banner.
Additional producers include Marc Provissiero (No Hard Feelings) via Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and Braden Aftergood through Eighty Two Films. Universal has slated Nobody 2 for a theatrical release on August 15, 2025.
The first film, made on a $16 million budget and released during the pandemic, grossed over $57.5 million worldwide and received positive reviews. The Hollywood Reporter described it as “a wish-fulfillment romp just as ludicrous as any of them but more fun than most.”
Stone, renowned for her provocative role in Basic Instinct and her Oscar-nominated performance in Casino alongside Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, has recently focused on television, featuring in Ryan Murphy’s Ratched on Netflix and Paolo Sorrentino’s The New Pope on HBO.
Her extensive humanitarian efforts have earned her numerous accolades, including a United Nations Global Citizen Award, a Nobel Peace Summit Award, a Harvard Humanitarian Award, a Human Rights Campaign Humanitarian Award, and an Einstein Spirit of Achievement Award. She also received a lifetime achievement award from the Taormina Film Festival.
Stone, who was recently featured on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter discussing her philanthropic work and Hollywood career, is represented by Independent Artist Group, which signed her less than two months ago, and Brecheen Feldman.
Universal’s executive vice president of production development Jay Polidoro and director of development Tony Ducret are overseeing the project for the studio.
