Sid Vicious, the iconic WWE legend, passed away at 63 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Despite his imposing presence in the ring, fellow wrestlers who had the chance to work with him have come forward to express their condolences, remembering him as a kind and generous person. WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi recently paid tribute to the former WCW star on his “Off The Top” podcast, highlighting the impact Vicious had on the wrestling community.
“We’ve lost another legend in the business,” Rikishi said. “Sid definitely left his mark on the industry and helped pave the way for the new generation of wrestlers. He was always kind to the Samoan community, to me and my family. He was such a great guy … My heart goes out to his family, his friends, and all the wrestling fans around the world who are mourning the loss of another wrestling icon.”
Rikishi also reminisced about his first encounter with Vicious in WCW, noting that Vicious had been trained by the legendary Afa and Sika of the Wild Samoans.
Rikishi praised Vicious for his in-ring performance, pointing out that many larger wrestlers struggled with their mobility and psychology in the ring, yet Vicious excelled. He went on to call Vicious one of the top 15 big men in the history of professional wrestling, crediting him as a standout special attraction in the sport.
