Landman Season 2 on Paramount Plus, Possibilities and Production Status

Taylor Sheridan’s Landman had audiences gripped with its intense finale — but what will season 2 cover after the shocking death of a major character?

Premiering in November 2024, Landman quickly became Sheridan’s newest hit, joining the ranks of other popular series like Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and Lioness.

Based on the “Boomtown” podcast by creator Christian Wallace, Landman stars Billy Bob Thornton as a corporate fixer working for an oil mogul (Jon Hamm) in a high-stakes West Texas drama.

The season finale delivered unexpected twists, with Monty (Hamm) being killed off while Tommy (Thornton) was unexpectedly promoted to president of M-Tex before being kidnapped and brutally beaten by a cartel leader. Tommy is eventually released but forced to work with the cartel under threat.

Wallace explained in January 2025 how Monty’s death was subtly foreshadowed: “Yeah, you kind of drop these little pieces throughout the entire season.

There’s Monty checking his heart rate on his watch or his wife Cami telling him no more coffee — just little things that were dropped this entire time to kind of let you know that something’s going on so that when it does finally happen, it’s not just completely out of nowhere.”

He added, “But you also don’t want to be too heavy-handed about it and just telegraph that explicitly to the viewers. So it’s just kind of a matter of trying to strike that balance of letting people know that there’s an issue without making it just the only thing that they can think about.”

With Monty gone, the show pivots, giving Demi Moore’s character, Cami, a more prominent role. Other key players like Ali Larter’s Angela, Jacob Lofland’s Cooper, Michelle Randolph’s Ainsley, and more also navigate their own arcs.

Here’s everything we know about season 2 of Landman:

Has Landman Been Renewed?

Although Landman has not yet been officially renewed for a second season, it has been a major success for Paramount+.

The series attracted nearly 15 million viewers within its first four weeks. Moore teased the possibility of season 2 at the Cannes Film Festival in August 2024, saying she’s “excited for us to start the second, which will be at the beginning of next year.”

Who Would Reprise Their Characters?

Many of the season 1 cast members are expected to return for season 2. This includes Larter, Moore, Lofland, Randolph, Kayla Wallace, Paulina Chávez, James Jordan, and Colm Feore. Andy Garcia, who made his debut as cartel boss Gallino in the season 1 finale, is likely to have a larger role in season 2.

Could Jon Hamm’s Character Return?

Jon Hamm’s character, Monty, met a tragic end, and Wallace in January 2025, “It is safe to say that Monty has passed. But when you take one major player off the board, it opens up opportunities for other players — and I think that’s all I’m at liberty to say at this point.”

Is It Demi Moore’s Time to Shine?

Wallace spoke about how season 2 would provide Cami (Moore) with more depth. In an interview with Variety, he said, “There is a lot more story left to tell with Cami. Taylor has big plans, that’s all I’m going to say.”

Wallace expanded on Cami’s role in a separate chat: “In this first season, Cami’s character was kind of playing second fiddle to Monty, especially with his role as president of M-Tex Oil. But with Monty’s passing, Cami has an incredible opportunity to step into a more significant role in this world.”

Although Wallace didn’t confirm a season 2, he acknowledged, “If the show were to go forward, I think everyone involved would love to see more of Cami and more of Demi.”

Would Billy Bob Thornton Return?

Billy Bob Thornton jokingly remarked to Variety in January 2025, “I think Taylor is trying to kill me. He had me beat up at the beginning and beat up at the end. At least he let me throw a few punches myself there in the middle.”

What Are the Plans for Michelle Randolph’s Controversial Character?

Michelle Randolph’s portrayal of Ainsley, Tommy’s 17-year-old daughter, sparked considerable discussion when her character engaged in provocative conversations with her father while wearing revealing clothing.

In an interview  in January 2025, Randolph shared her perspective: “I think being comfortable in your sexuality is something to be celebrated. If that’s what you feel as a human and aligns with who you are, then be authentically yourself.” She added that Ainsley, as she matures, may set more boundaries as she becomes more aware of how the world works.

Randolph clarified that she had no regrets about the role, saying, “I’m so proud of the show that we made, and so I just didn’t let myself have a perspective on what the audience thought. I think I’ve said before, [that] I disassociated [during certain scenes], but you kind of have to.

I did my job when I was filming and then I closed the door and we put it out there, and I’m excited to hopefully continue the character and that’s all I can do.”
