Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, and Dakota Johnson find themselves entangled in a complicated love triangle in their upcoming film.
Writer-director Celine Song’s latest romantic comedy, Materialists (in theaters June 13), serves as her highly anticipated follow-up to the Oscar-nominated Past Lives.
The film stars Johnson, 35, as Lucy, a modern matchmaker whose professional and personal worlds collide when she meets a potential new love interest, Randy (played by Pascal, 49), at an event—only to unexpectedly reconnect with her ex, John (Evans, 43), on the same night.
A Love Triangle Unfolds
As teased in the newly released trailer, both Randy and John compete for Lucy’s heart, introducing emotional turmoil into her life.
At one point, John asks Lucy if she plans to marry Randy—who appears ready to propose—while Lucy’s uncertainty over love begins to affect her confidence in her matchmaking career.
“A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex,” reads the official synopsis for the film.
An All-Star Cast and Director
Alongside Evans, Pascal, and Johnson, the film also stars Marin Ireland, Louisa Jacobson, Zoe Winters, Sawyer Spielberg, and Dasha Nekrasova.

Materialists is Song’s second feature film, following her critically acclaimed 2022 debut, Past Lives. Before her success in film, Song made her mark as a New York City playwright.
