Bullet Train Explosion

Bullet Train Explosion, Netflix’s Action Thriller Remaking A 1975 Japanese Classic

“I will never stop it.” Netflix has revealed an exciting teaser trailer for the Japanese action thriller Bullet Train Explosion, set to arrive in April.

This unexpected remake and reboot of the 1975 Japanese action classic Bullet Train pays homage to a film that has influenced many action filmmakers.

It serves as a modernized Japanese update akin to Shin Godzilla, and fittingly, it is directed by the same filmmaker behind Shin Ultraman and co-director of Shin Godzilla.

In the film, chaos erupts on a Tokyo-bound bullet train (Shinkansen) when a bomb threat emerges—if the train slows below 100 km/h, it will detonate.

Authorities must act swiftly to prevent disaster. A striking new poster showcases Takaichi standing before the burning Hayabusa No. 60 train, heightening the suspense.

The film stars Tsuyoshi Kusanagi alongside Kanata Hosoda, Non, Jun Kaname, Machiko Ono, Hana Toyoshima, and Daisuke Kuroda. The footage offers an impressive modernization of the classic, drawing significant attention from audiences enthralled by the high-speed action.

As a train enthusiast, I have to say—I cannot wait to watch this. It’s a thrilling teaser.

Here’s the first teaser trailer for Shinji Higuchi’s Bullet Train Explosion, direct from YouTube:

“With special cooperation from the East Japan Railway Company, the production used real bullet trains and railway facilities to craft extremely realistic visuals, which were seamlessly enhanced with cutting-edge visual effects.

Packed with non-stop suspense, this high-stakes thriller will keep audiences breathless from start to finish.”

“Don’t stop…” A tense call reaches the Shinkansen General Operation Control Center. The anonymous caller claims a bomb is planted on the Tokyo-bound Hayabusa No. 60 train and will detonate if its speed drops below 100 km/h.

The demand: 100 billion yen in ransom to disarm the device. As the crew, passengers, and railway officials scramble to prevent catastrophe, the battle against time intensifies. Will the Hayabusa No. 60 outrun disaster?

Bullet Train Explosion is directed by renowned Japanese VFX artist and filmmaker Shinji Higuchi, whose credits include Lorelei, The Floating Castle, Attack on Titan: Part 1 & 2, and the live-action Shin Ultraman. He is also celebrated for his extensive VFX work on the Gamera films and numerous other projects.

The screenplay is written by Kazuhiro Nakagawa and Norichika Ôba, drawing inspiration from the original 1975 classic Bullet Train. The film is produced by Kota Ishizuka and executive produced by Yoshihiro Satô.

Netflix is set to stream Bullet Train Explosion worldwide starting April 23, 2025, this spring. Who’s looking forward to watching this high-speed thriller?
