In light of Vince McMahon’s recent and controversial return to WWE, it was almost a given that legal challenges would follow.
Before today, McMahon was already contending with a lawsuit from a Delaware shareholder and the potential resurgence of a previous lawsuit filed in June prior to his first retirement. Now, he faces a new legal battle.
Sportico reports that the Detroit Police and Fire Retirement System has initiated a lawsuit against McMahon aimed at blocking his efforts to regain control of WWE and to prevent any expedited sale of the company.
The lawsuit also seeks to have the case filed as a class action, which could potentially delay the sale process if the court takes the complaint seriously.
The new lawsuit closely mirrors the claims made by the Delaware shareholder last week, accusing McMahon of breaching his fiduciary duties as the controlling stockholder.
It highlights McMahon’s return to the WWE Board of Directors and his alteration of WWE bylaws, which the lawsuit argues could obstruct the Board from making essential decisions.
The potential impact of this lawsuit on McMahon is currently uncertain. Despite these legal challenges, he appears resolute in his efforts to regain full control of WWE.
Reports suggest that McMahon has already returned to WWE’s Titan Towers and is engaging with various departments. However, he has yet to resume his role in WWE Creative, with Triple H continuing to assure WWE talent of his ongoing creative control for now.
