Cameron Diaz is ready to embrace the green life once more. The actress, who ended her 10-year retirement with Netflix’s Back in Action, recently shared that she’s open to reprising her role as nightclub singer Tina Carlyle in a sequel to the 1994 comedy The Mask—but only if Jim Carrey is on board.
“If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one,” Diaz joked about the potential return to the beloved franchise. The Mask featured Carrey as Stanley Ipkis, a mild-mannered bank teller whose world is upended when he discovers a mystical mask that imbues him with the powers of a mischievous trickster.
Carrey himself has hinted at his willingness to revisit the role. He explained that while the idea of a sequel intrigues him, it would hinge on the strength of the script.
“Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea,” said Carrey, who recently reprised his role as Doctor Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. “If somebody had the right idea, I guess… It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money, but it’s more about the passion behind it. I’ve mentioned wanting to retire, but it’s more like power-resting. If a great idea or a wonderful team comes along, things can change.”
Diaz also hinted at her enthusiasm for another sequel to Charlie’s Angels, reuniting with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. Playfully, she suggested that her Back in Action co-star Jamie Foxx could step in as Bosley.
“I’m gonna text [Lucy Liu] right now and pitch her Jamie as Bosley,” Diaz teased, fueling excitement about the possibility of another adventure with the iconic trio.
