Veteran TE Released by Eagles Just Before Preseason Finale

C.J. Uzomah (Philadelphia Eagles)

The Philadelphia Eagles are currently preparing for their last preseason matchup. However, veteran tight end C.J. Uzomah will not be part of those preparations. Jeff McLane reported that the Eagles have recently released the 31-year-old, allowing him the chance to secure a new team before the regular season kicks off.

Now entering his 10th year in the NFL, Uzomah has had a solid career as a reliable role player. His best statistical season came in 2021 when he was with the Cincinnati Bengals, recording 49 catches, 493 yards, and five touchdowns.

At this stage in his career, Uzomah could be seeking a chance to play for a contending team. One possible landing spot could be his former team, the New York Jets.

Uzomah spent the previous two seasons with the Jets before signing with the Eagles this offseason. As the Jets didn’t replace him after he hit free agency, they might bring him back on a budget-friendly deal to give Aaron Rodgers another passing option.

Other playoff contenders, such as the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit Lions, may also look to bolster their tight end depth with Uzomah. Whether or not he finds the perfect fit in time for the regular season remains to be seen.
