Mariana Wainstein’s debut feature film “Linda” makes its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it is part of the Discovery program highlighting emerging global talent. The festival runs from September 5-15, showcasing both debut and sophomore films.

The film, produced by Argentina’s Pampa Films and co-produced by Bourke Films and Spain’s Gloriamundi Producciones, centers on the character Linda, portrayed by Eugenia “China” Suárez.

Linda is newly hired as a housekeeper by a wealthy but unremarkable family. As she subtly influences the household, she brings their hidden aspirations and desires to the forefront.

“It’s a film that delves into family dynamics, a theme that resonates with many. With a committed cast, we’ve crafted a narrative that not only entertains but also encourages reflection on the importance of family relationships,” commented Cabe Bossi, co-CEO at Pampa Films.

Written by Wainstein along with a team of writers, including Diego Bliffeld and Luciano Cocciardi, the screenplay draws inspiration from regional writer Mario Mactas.  The film’s first trailer, shared exclusively with Variety, offers a glance through Linda’s enigmatic influence on the family as their lives unravel.

The teaser highlights her magnetic presence and the quiet, yet powerful impact she has on those around her. “Linda” presents a fresh take on the femme fatale archetype, with the titular character portrayed as defiant and unrepentant in her actions.

Wainstein, who has a background in screenwriting and collaboration on projects like Santiago Korovsky’s Netflix comedy “División Palermo,” expressed that the film allowed her to explore the challanges of family dynamics and the impact of an outsider disrupting established norms.
