The trailer for “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” has been released by Disney+, showcasing Jude Law in a new coming-of-age series set to debut on December 3. The show features four young actors—Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong—who discover what they believe is a hidden Jedi temple on their planet, only to find a crashed starship instead.
As they become lost in the galaxy, their journey leads them to encounter Law’s character, Jod Na Nawood, a mysterious figure who seems to wield the Force, though his true intentions are unclear.
Law revealed the trailer during Disney’s presentation at the D23 Expo on Friday. He described the series as “a timeless adventure story in the vein of the Amblin coming-of-age classics from the ’80s, like ‘Goonies’ and ‘E.T.,’” with the trailer evoking the Spielbergian wonder of those films. At the 2022 Star Wars Celebration, Dave Filoni highlighted that the show, while centered on children, is intended for a broader audience.
Filoni joked, “They like to say it’s as much for kids as ‘Clone Wars,’ and I’m like ‘Well, we cut people’s heads off in ‘Clone Wars,’ so I’m not sure if that’s the measurement you’re looking for.’ Star Wars is for kids anyway; we’re all big kids. I loved it since I was a kid and I’m still gonna love it when I’m much older.”
During this year’s Star Wars Celebration, Law reflected on joining the Star Wars universe, stating, “Wow, how to sum that up. Honestly, I was around 6 years old when this galaxy first captured me and blew my mind. I feel like I’ve been preparing for this ever since, so it was a smooth experience! It was a total pleasure.”
Created by Jon Watts and Chris Ford of “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” the series is being executive produced by Watts, Ford, Filoni, and Jon Favreau. Directors for the series include Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the Oscar-winning team behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” along with David Lowery, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Lee Isaac Chung.
