Spurs Seal £65m Transfer Deal for Solanke from Bournemouth

Solanke (Bournemouth)

Tottenham Hotspur is set to finalize a deal for the 26-year-old, agreeing to an initial payment of £55 million with an additional £10 million in performance-related bonuses. This move comes after Solanke’s £65 million release clause was disclosed by Bournemouth owner Bill Foley in a recent BBC Sport interview.

If the transfer goes through, it will set a new record for Bournemouth, surpassing the £40 million they received from Manchester City for Nathan Ake in 2020. Solanke, who was acquired by Bournemouth from Liverpool for £19 million in 2019, has a 20% sell-on clause favoring Liverpool from any profit made on this deal.

Solanke had a standout season in 2023-24, netting 21 goals in 42 matches for Bournemouth. Spurs’ manager, Ange Postecoglou, has been actively seeking to bolster his attack following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich last summer. At a press conference, Postecoglou emphasized the need to strengthen the forward line, although he noted that replacing a player of Kane’s caliber is not feasible.

Postecoglou remarked, “You can’t replace a generational talent like Kane; that’s what makes them exceptional. We’re focused on finding the right players to address our needs for the coming season.”

In July, Foley expressed his hope that Solanke would remain at Bournemouth but mentioned having “two or three candidates” in mind as potential replacements. Cherries manager Andoni Iraola admitted that losing Solanke would be a big blow.
