Bookings are now open in Thailand for the Jaecoo J6, an EV with a design reminiscent of a compact Land Rover Defender. The vehicle is available in two variants: the Long Range 2WD, priced around 1.099 million baht (approximately RM138,715), and the Long Range 4WD, estimated at 1.249 million baht (about RM157,648). Deliveries are anticipated to begin later this year.
The first 1,000 customers to place an order will benefit from an eight-year or 200,000 km warranty covering the car, battery, and motor/system, along with a Garmin Forerunner 165 watch. Additionally, all J6 buyers in Thailand will receive one year of free insurance, a complimentary home charger with installation, and five years of roadside assistance for vehicles delivered before November 30.
Originally previewed in Thailand in May, the Jaecoo J6 debuted in China last year under the iCar 03 nameplate (iCar is also a sub-brand of Chery). The compact, boxy design is slightly shorter than the Toyota Corolla Cross, measuring 4,406 mm in length, but is wider and taller, with dimensions of 1,910 mm and 1,715 mm, respectively.
The wheelbase is a spacious 2,715 mm. Thailand’s version includes a 40-litre rear storage “backpack” on the tailgate and the original iCar’s illuminated front badge, a feature also expected in the Malaysian market.
Inside, the rugged interior features large grab handles, exposed Allen bolt heads, a 9.2-inch meter panel, 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, 50-watt Qi wireless charger, panoramic glass roof, and an optional 12-speaker Infinity sound system.
Powertrain options in Thailand include a rear motor producing 184 PS (135 kW) and 220 Nm or an additional front motor for a total output of 279 PS (205 kW) and 385 Nm. The 2WD version is equipped with a 65.69 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a WLTP range of 371 km, while the 4WD model features a slightly larger 69.77 kWh battery with a WLTP range of 364 km.
Charging capabilities include a maximum AC rate of 6.6 kW and DC fast charging up to 80 kW, with a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function providing up to 3.3 kW of power. While the specifications are solid, the standout feature of the Jaecoo J6 is its distinctive, boxy design, drawing clear inspiration from the Defender.
Chery’s Jaecoo brand made its Malaysian debut last month with the J7, which shares the Land Rover-inspired design cues and is powered by a 1.6L turbocharged engine with 194 hp and 290 Nm of torque. The J6 is expected to arrive in Malaysia early next year.
