Lamborghini has started hinting at the next-generation model that will replace the Huracan, set to be uncovered during Monterey Car Week on August 16 this year. In a nearly one-minute video, the Italian automaker proudly reveals that its forthcoming “super sports car” will feature an engine capable of revving up to 10,000 rpm. Currently known under the codename 634, this model is expected to be named ‘Temerario.’

The engine, first teased back in May, is not the familiar V10 but a V8 equipped with a plug-in hybrid system and forced induction. Although it may lack two cylinders and natural aspiration, and even incorporates electrification, this all-new powertrain is set to produce an impressive 800 PS (789 hp or 588 kW) between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm, along with 730 Nm of torque between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm.

The new 634 is entirely developed by Lamborghini and is not expected to have an Audi counterpart (Lamborghini)

For comparison, the previous Huracan’s V10 engine in the high-performance STO variant delivered 640 PS (631 hp or 471 kW) and 565 Nm of torque. Lamborghini states that the new V8 engine will have a 4.0-litre displacement, boosted by twin turbochargers and three electric motors, and will be paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Specifically, one of the electric motors is an axial-flux unit positioned between the engine and gearbox, offering 150 PS (148 hp or 110 kW) and 300 Nm. This configuration is somewhat similar to the one found in the flagship Revuelto, which uses a V12.

Unlike the Huracan and Gallardo models that shared components with the Audi R8, the new 634 is entirely developed by Lamborghini and is not expected to have an Audi counterpart. Spy photos of the 634 suggest a bold and innovative exterior design, which will be fully revealed in just a few days.
