Three Winners Emerge in KL Fashion Week 2024 Designer Search, Influenced by Peugeot 408

2024 Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (Kuala Lumpur)

The 2024 Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW 2024), held in Kuala Lumpur last week, showcased the sixth edition of the KLFW Designer Search, themed “Capturing Allure.” This event marked a first-time collaboration with an automotive brand, as it partnered with Peugeot.

Focusing on sustainability, the selected designers were challenged to create two outfits using upcycled materials from Life Line Clothing Malaysia, one of the country’s leading zero-waste textile collectors. According to Peugeot Malaysia, the participants drew inspiration from the latest Peugeot 408 for their designs.

The competition was judged on creativity, originality, innovation, and technical skill, with Mei Xuan Tieo, 18; Raja Irfan, 25; and Salahuddin Hilmi, 26 emerging as the winners. These three designers will have the chance to present their full collections at next year’s Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week and at the Lao Fashion Week: Zero Waste, scheduled for October.

Stellantis Malaysia Managing Director Jamie Francis Morais emphasized the importance of sustainability, stating, “Sustainability is a key pillar for the automotive and fashion industries to not just survive, but to thrive. At Stellantis and Peugeot, we continually seek innovative ways to create products that are both functional and sustainable.”

Morais further expressed excitement about how the Peugeot 408’s design served as an inspiration for the participating designers.
