Francisco Lindor led the group at No. 17. Starting pitchers Justin Verlander (22) and Max Scherzer (27) followed, while first baseman Pete Alonso (29) also made the top 30.
17: Francisco Lindor
After a subpar 2021 season, Lindor rebounded strongly in 2022, hitting .270/.339/.448 with 26 home runs and 16 stolen bases, alongside solid defensive performance. Since his debut in 2015, Lindor has been a top shortstop, boasting a 42.0 fWAR, ahead of Xander Bogaerts. Despite not yet replicating his 30-homer seasons from Cleveland, Lindor remains crucial to New York’s ambitions and their payroll.

Verlander, who secured a Cy Young Award at 39 after Tommy John surgery, delivered one of the most remarkable seasons in baseball history with the Astros in 2022. His performance included a major league-leading 1.75 ERA, 175 innings, and a mid-90s fastball. While only a few power pitchers have thrived into their 40s, Verlander has the potential to join their ranks.

At 38, Scherzer continues to be dominant despite a slight decline in fastball velocity. His 2022 ERA of 2.29 was a career low, though he didn’t qualify for the ERA title.
