The likelihood of “Hard Knocks” making its way to Florham Park this fall is growing stronger.
The Jets are one of four NFL teams currently eligible for HBO’s immersive series, which chronicles a team’s journey through the season starting from training camp. The other contenders include the Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Commanders.
Given the Jets’ eventful offseason, highlighted by the possible acquisition of future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers and the potential signing of star free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham, they stand out as the most intriguing choice among the candidates. Their chances were further bolstered when the Bears openly expressed their reluctance to be featured.
At a recent NFL league meeting in Phoenix, Bears chairman George McCaskey was questioned about the team’s interest in participating in “Hard Knocks.” He conceded that there are several teams with compelling stories but suggested that the Bears are not one of them, hinting that the Jets might be a more suitable option.
Jets owner Woody Johnson did not outright dismiss the idea of HBO choosing his team. He indicated that the possibility is worth careful evaluation.
The Bears have yet to appear on “Hard Knocks,” a show that first premiered in 2001. The Jets last featured on the show during the 2010 season. With a 12-year playoff drought, the Jets’ story could be particularly captivating for viewers.
