Joining Bob Odenkirk in the upcoming action film “Normal” are Henry Winkler and Lena Headey, adding star power to the project produced by the team behind the successful 2021 film “Nobody.”
In this movie, Odenkirk portrays Ulysses, a substitute sheriff in the small Minnesota town of Normal, known for its welcoming Midwestern residents. Following a bank robbery, Ulysses “unknowingly uncovers something far more explosive than a simple bank robbery,” according to the film’s logline.
Winkler, best known for his roles in “Happy Days” and “Barry,” will take on the role of the mayor of Normal, while Headey, recognized for her performances in “Game of Thrones” and “300,” will play Moira, the local bartender.
Directed by Ben Wheatley, known for “Free Fire” and “Kill List,” “Normal” features a screenplay by Derek Kolstad, the creator of “John Wick,” who shares story credit with Odenkirk. The producing team includes Marc Provissiero (“Nobody,” “No Hard Feelings”), Odenkirk, and Kolstad, who have recently completed work on “Nobody 2.”
Filming for “Normal” commenced on October 21 and will take place in Winnipeg, Canada, continuing through December. The cast also features Ryan Allen, Billy MacLellan, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Shinkoda, and Jess McLeod.
Executive producers for the project include Ellen Rutter, Rhonda Baker, and Carrie Wilkins from Bonus Productions Canada; Molly C. Quinn, Matthew M. Welty, and Elan Gale from QWGMire, which provided financing; Matthew Anderson for Aperture; and Josh Adler and Glenn Feig.
With representation from WME, “Normal” has already secured pre-sales to distributors globally. In a joint statement, the producers expressed their enthusiasm for Wheatley’s involvement, stating, “We’re thrilled Ben Wheatley joined us on this one. He is an absolute master of the form. We love our cast and are excited to try and capture something unexpected.”
Odenkirk is represented by WME, Odenkirk Provissiero, Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, while Wheatley is represented by WME, Independent Talent, and Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Kolstad is with UTA and Circle Management + Production, Winkler is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Heller Law, and Headey is represented by CAA and TMT Ent Group.
