Serious changes may be on the horizon for the Las Vegas Raiders. Reports indicate that the team has let go of offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, and insiders suggest additional moves could follow.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Getsy was dismissed on Sunday night after the Raiders’ Week 9 defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals, a game that showcased yet another lackluster performance from Las Vegas, particularly on offense.
Pelissero further mentioned that passing-game coordinator Scott Turner is the “logical candidate” to step in as interim offensive coordinator following Getsy’s firing.
Given the struggles of the offense throughout 2024, this decision seems warranted. While execution issues across the board played a role, Getsy’s play-calling often left fans and analysts perplexed.
Although this change is important, it may not be the only adjustment on the table. Both Paul Gutierrez from ESPN and Vincent Bonsignore from the Las Vegas Review-Journal hinted at more transformations ahead.
“More changes to come, above and beyond the Raiders firing offensive coordinator Luke Getsy,” Bonsignore stated. “Stay tuned, long night ahead.”
“Confirmed and… stay tuned,” added Gutierrez. UPDATE: In a further shake-up, the Raiders have also relieved offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello of their duties, according to Pelissero.
Additionally, Bonsignore suggests that the Raiders may not be finished making changes. While it seems unlikely that head coach Antonio Pierce will be fired—an action that typically would have been reported first—it’s wise to remain cautious regarding the Raiders’ decisions.
With the NFL trade deadline approaching on Tuesday, there could be trades or more changes shortly. Although earlier reports indicated that Las Vegas planned to remain steady, Sunday’s events may have altered those intentions.
Regardless of what comes up next, all eyes will be on the Raiders as they engage this pivotal moment.
