The Jeep Avenger 4xe has launched in the UK, with prices beginning at £30,999, and it now stands as the flagship model of the lineup. At the time of its launch, the 4×4 comes in two trims: the base Upland and the exclusive The North Face Edition.
The latter variant is priced at £34,999 and limited to 4,806 units, featuring Summit Gold accents and a nature-inspired color palette. Deliveries for both trims are set to commence in March.
Equipped with an all-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain, the 4xe is not available as a fully electric vehicle, yet Jeep claims it will “go further, faster and better off-road” than any competitor, establishing a new benchmark in its segment.
Eric Laforge, the new head of Jeep Europe, expressed pride in launching a model that excels in performance and sustainability while also offering exceptional versatility and style.
Initially introduced as an electric vehicle in mid-2023, the Avenger later saw the addition of a more affordable pure-petrol variant in the UK. Both models feature front-wheel drive; however, Jeep has always intended to provide an all-wheel-drive option to capitalize on its strong off-road legacy. The 4×4 version made its first appearance at the 2022 Paris motor show.
Antonio Filosa, the former Jeep boss who now leads Stellantis North America, previously stated: “Whenever we envision a Jeep product, we consider a four-wheel-drive version.
Jeep stands out as the most capable brand globally, and capability is synonymous with off-road performance. Thus, every Jeep vehicle must surpass its competitors in terms of capability within its segment.”
Combining a 134bhp 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the Avenger 4xe also features two 28bhp electric motors, one on each axle.
This 48V hybrid system is crafted to enhance traction and torque, seriously improving its off-road capabilities. Jeep asserts it can deliver up to 1,400 lb-ft at the rear wheels, likely calculated by multiplying the motor torque with the gear ratio.
Thanks to its all-wheel-drive system, the 4xe achieves a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 9.5 seconds, with a top speed of 120 mph. Jeep claims that the increase in CO2 emissions is “minimal” compared to the existing Avenger hybrid offered in certain markets, although the company has not provided specific figures.
Utilizing a ‘smart’ all-wheel-drive system, power is distributed to all four wheels at speeds below 19 mph. Between 19 mph and 56 mph, the rear axle activates only as necessary, while two-wheel drive is utilized at higher speeds to optimize fuel efficiency.
In all-wheel-drive mode, torque can be distributed on demand, allowing for a front-to-rear split of up to 50:50. The Selec-Terrain drive mode function includes Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud, and Sport settings, which adjust power distribution and stability control based on varying driving conditions.
