After Shelton Benjamin left WWE, it was widely anticipated that he would find a new home in another wrestling promotion. During his debut match on “AEW Dynamite,” he faced Lio Rush and garnered praise from Jim Ross, who feels that “The Gold Standard” still has much to offer in the ring. In an interview with “Gabby AF,” Benjamin shared that he received offers from various promotions following his departure from WWE.
Reflecting on his post-WWE journey, Benjamin mentioned exploring numerous international opportunities and considering options beyond wrestling. “I was looking into acting and even thought about real estate,” he said. “Finally, it came down to wanting to place myself in the best situation for success.”
Leaving WWE posed a challenge for Benjamin, who stated that he carefully weighed his options after parting ways with the company. “IMPACT was a very attractive option for me. However, I want to reach the largest audience possible. Outside of WWE, AEW offers the biggest platform,” he clarified.
Benjamin acknowledged that his time in the ring is limited. Although retirement isn’t currently on his agenda, he aims to maximize his remaining opportunities. “With the time I have left, I want to connect with the largest audience possible. AEW is undoubtedly the best place for that.”
