Lawler Speaks Out: Why John Cena Should Continue His WWE Journey

John Cena is poised to wrap up his professional wrestling journey in 2025 as he plans to retire from WWE. Nevertheless, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler hopes the celebrated star will continue his wrestling career rather than step away from the ring.

In a recent appearance on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, Lawler discussed Cena’s upcoming retirement, emphasizing that he should not hang up his boots. “In my opinion, no one should ever retire,” Lawler remarked. “There are so many opportunities to stay active without labeling it as retirement. When I hear about someone retiring, it often leads me to believe they might not be around much longer.

I wouldn’t classify him as someone who’s going to retire.” He reminisced about the late Terry Funk, who never officially retired, recounting how Funk expressed a desire to come back for a match against him, even when facing health challenges.

Earlier this year, Cena announced that he would begin his farewell year in WWE at the Royal Rumble in 2025. He confirmed that he would participate in several Premium Live Events throughout the year. Additionally, he mentioned that he had cleared his schedule to make more frequent appearances in WWE as a gesture of gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support.

In 2024, the 16-time world champion has only participated in a single match, teaming up with The Miz and R-Truth on WWE Raw following WrestleMania, where they secured a victory against The Judgment Day.

He also made a memorable appearance during the main event of WrestleMania 40 on the second night, coming face-to-face with his long-time rival, The Rock, during the clash between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.
