Jets wide receiver Mike Williams has had difficulty syncing with quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the current season. In six games, he has managed only 10 receptions totaling 145 yards. Recent reports from insider Dianna Russini indicate that three teams are showing interest in acquiring the former 1,000-yard receiver.
“According to sources, the Chargers, Steelers, and Saints are among several teams contacting the Jets regarding WR Mike Williams,” Russini shared on social media Thursday morning. Not every situation works out as planned.
After spending seven seasons with the Chargers, Williams joined the Jets on a one-year contract this offseason. Despite recovering from an ACL tear last season, he has yet to establish a rapport with Rodgers.
In Monday night’s defeat against the Buffalo Bills, Williams’ miscommunication on a route late in the fourth quarter resulted in a game-sealing interception for Buffalo. Following that game, the Jets moved quickly to acquire Davante Adams.
Consequently, it’s no surprise that Williams is now on the trade block, with all three interested teams likely needing his talents. The Steelers have been actively searching for a wide receiver throughout the season.
Additionally, the Saints are facing injuries within their receiving corps. While all three teams make logical sense for a potential trade, it will be intriguing to see whether the Jets decide to allow Williams more time to foster a stronger connection with Rodgers.
