Aikman Slams Cowboys’ Wide Receivers, Claims their Routes are Lacking

The voices of some of the greatest players in Dallas Cowboys history will certainly be heard when the team faces challenges. Troy Aikman, a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and Cowboys icon, recently shared his insights on Dallas Sports Radio regarding the team’s issues, particularly focusing on the wide receivers.

“The routes are terrible. I think they run terrible routes. And I’ve thought that beyond this year. I think CeeDee (Lamb) has got to improve in his route running…I see guys lazy coming off the line of scrimmage…I’m not impressed with that part of it,” Aikman expressed on Thursday (via 96.7 The Ticket).

CeeDee and Mike McCarthy (Dallas Cowboys)

This season, the Cowboys have managed to score over 20 points in only two games, with their most recent effort occurring against a Browns team that appears to be struggling. Their other game with over 20 points was a home defeat against the Baltimore Ravens, during which they were trailing for most of the match.

In their latest outing, the Cowboys could only muster nine points in a dismal 38-point home loss to the Detroit Lions. The offense under Mike McCarthy has not met the expectations set by him or team owner Jerry Jones.

The performance of the wide receivers, particularly in route-running, plays a crucial role in this underachievement. Without the pass-catchers executing their roles effectively, finding success as a whole for the quarterback and the offense becomes increasingly difficult.
