More original cast members from “Peaky Blinders” are set to return for the highly anticipated movie continuation of the crime drama series. Joining Cillian Murphy’s character Tommy Shelby are Stephen Graham (“Matilda,” “Boiling Point”), Sophie Rundle (“After the Flood,” “Gentleman Jack”), Ned Dennehy (“Culprits,” “The Peripheral”), Packy Lee (“Blue Lights”), and Ian Peck (“His Dark Materials,” “Robin Hood”). Additionally, Jay Lycurgo (“Steve,” “Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself”) has been cast in a role that has yet to be disclosed.
In the series finale, Graham’s character, Hayden Stagg, serves as the union leader for the dock workers in Liverpool. Rundle’s character, Ada Shelby, was featured prominently throughout all six seasons, while Dennehy played Charlie Strong, a sort of uncle figure to the Shelby family.
Lee portrayed Johnny Dogs, a close friend of Tommy’s, and Ian Peck’s character, Curly, served as Charlie’s assistant. Filming began last week, and a first look at Murphy reprising his role has been released.
Although the storyline remains a closely guarded secret, the film is touted as “an epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s.”
The film will also feature Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan in yet-to-be-announced roles. The script has been written by “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight, with Tom Harper (“Heart of Stone,” “Wild Rose”) as the director.
Producing the film are Knight, Murphy, Patrick Holland, and Guy Heeley, in collaboration with BBC Film. The executive producers include Harper, David Kosse, Caryn Mandabach, Jamie Glazebrook, and Andrew Warren.
