As the NFL season progresses into its sixth week, the action is already in full swing. Another campaign is racing ahead at a rapid pace, and it won’t be long before the playoffs are upon us. Although it may still be early to discuss potential playoff contenders or long-term award candidates, Robert Griffin III recently shared his top five MVP frontrunners for this season on X.
In his rankings, he listed Sam Darnold, Jayden Daniels, Derrick Henry, C.J. Stroud, and Lamar Jackson. While Stroud and Jackson are expected to be in the MVP conversation, the inclusion of the other players may have raised some eyebrows among fans and analysts.
Darnold has excelled with the Minnesota Vikings, leading the team to an impressive 5-0 start. Despite signing on a lower salary than he might prefer, he is certainly making the most of his chance to shine. Daniels was anticipated to perform well in the Washington Commanders’ system, but it’s uncommon for rookie quarterbacks to be part of the MVP dialogue so early in their careers.
Lastly, there’s Derrick Henry, who remains a dominant force in the league, and his influence on the Baltimore Ravens’ offense is significant. With Henry as the primary back, the team has flourished, creating more opportunities for both passing and rushing plays for Lamar Jackson.
